2008 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: Oxford Street

In 2008 the Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on ceremony was on Wed 12 November 2008.
Part of the road was shut from 4pm and crowds gathered opposite the stage next to the House of Fraser.
The event was hosted by presenters from London’s Heart 106.2 radio station.
At 5:45pm there was a performance by the cast of Mamma Mia.
At 5:55pm some of the X Factor finalists appeared to sing the song Hero.
At 6:05pm Sugababes sang several songs, before switching on the lights at 6:15pm.
About 50,000 people came to watch the event.

2008 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: Regent Street

In 2008 the Regent Street Christmas lights switch-on was on Thursday 6 November 2008.
The road was closed to traffic from 5pm-7pm. There was entertainment on a stage set up at the junction of New Burlington Street and Regent Street from 6pm - 6:50pm.
In 2008 the theme of the lights is "stars" and they were switched on by the band McFly (whose new release is the Official Children in Need single).

live on BBC London News

The London Community Gospel Choir sang several songs,
including Take That's "Rule the World" ("all the stars are coming out tonight")


Pudsey Bear is the symbol of the BBC's
annual Children in Need charity event ...

... raising money for
disadvantaged children ...

... one of the fundraising methods
will be by selling his bandana for £2

The members of the band appeared on stage to give a TV interview and to turn on the lights.

2008 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: Bond Street

In 2008 the Bond Street Christmas lights were switched on by Kelly Brook at 6pm on Thursday 20 November 2008.
Kelly is a British actress and model.
Money was raised at the event for Great Ormond's Street Hospital: http://www.gosh.org
Three children who have been helped by the hospital appeared on stage with Kelly.
A choir, street entertainers and musicians performed along the road.
