If you are not a British citizen, please check the rules about working before you look for a job. EU citizens are allowed to work in the UK, but people from some of the countries which recently joined the EU need to register first.

If you have a student visa (full-time study over 15 hours per week for over 6 months) the current rules [August 2006] allow part-time work of up to 20 hours per week during termtime and full-time work during school/college/university holidays.
