Finding an internship (a work experience placement) in the UK

INTRODUCTION
Most work experience is unpaid. Normally you need to make your own arrangements for accommodation if you need to work far from where you are currently living, and need to pay for your own expenses for travel, accommodation and other living costs. Note that if you are from outside the EU if you have a visa or passport which allows you to work in the UK - even if there is no pay for the work.

Applications for work placements often need to be made 3 months or more before the placement starts, so it is a good idea to start planning as early as possible.
Work experience is often for quite short periods, typically between about 1 week to 3 months.
The most popular times are during the UK school/university holidays, especially during the summer months.
