Lonely Planet verdict: Norfolk
"Norfolk has long endured a reputation for being a dull county ... for 'dull' though read 'relaxed' ... Bird-watchers and their binoculars are attracted by its several nature reserves, while its superb, unspoilt coastlines draw a limited number of tourists eager to escape the cheesy, 'holiday-by-the-sea' feel that has afflicted so many of Britain's beaches. Norwich, the county town, is a very pleasant place with an interesting castle and cathedral, as well as the best nightlife in the whole region (bar Cambridge) - due for the most part to the presence of the university, which means that the town is overrun with students"
