Lonely Planet verdict: The Cotswolds
"The northern Cotswolds are characterised by charming villages of soft, mellow stone, built in folds between the rolling wolds. Although they owe their existence to the medieval wool industry, most now rely on tourism for a living ... Unfortunately, public transportation between many of the towns is limited at best ... The southern Cotswolds are quite different in character to the northern area: the stone is more soberly coloured, the valleys are steeper and the area is less reliant on tourism" (extracts from "Lonely Planet Great Britain - 2003 edition", used with permission) |
