ENVIRONMENT

Exeter was the top English city in a "quality of life" survey in 1999.
Relatively low rate of pollution
Being in south-west England, the climate is warmer and sunnier than many other parts of England
Being in a hilly area, when it rains it can be quite a heavy downpour

A safe city, with a low crime rate and less violence than in many other cities of the same size.
In 2001/02 there were 10.3 offences of violence against people per 1,000 people, below the English average of 10.8.
In 2000, Exeter was ranked the 123rd most deprived out of the 354 districts in England.
