Evanescence is an American group (a previously little-known quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas). The lead vocalist is Amy Lee, and Ben Moody plays the guitar. This song is used as part of the soundtrack for the film "Daredevil". "Fallen" is their first album. The group's official website is at: http://www.evanescence.com.

The singer is a woman who feels like she is dead. Her "core" (heart) has become "numb" (without feeling). She feels like she has become "nothing". But she has met a man who she believes can make her feel like being alive again. She begs him: "bring me to life" and "call my name and save me from the dark". You can think of this as a normal love song. But in the film "Daredevil" the meaning of the words are quite literal - the story involves zombies (people who return to life after they have died and been buried).

R Kelly is an American singer who has already had ten "top-10" records in the UK charts. His previous number 1 record was "I Believe I Can Fly" in 1997.

This song is about the life of a male pop star who likes parties, fast cars, drink and making love to women. The singer likes sports cars (he owns a "Lexus Coup"), so he uses car terminology as a metaphor for having sex. Putting his "key" in the "ignition" (as if to start a car), the noise of the hooter ("toot toot" or "beep beep"), and the idea of "bouncing" in the car can all have sexual meanings.

There are a lot of slang words used in the song. For example, "fro" is short for "afro", meaning a hairstyle like the Jackson Five had (much hair and round like a ball). "24's" refers to the size of the wheels on the vehicle. "Freaking" is a slang word for having sex. "Playing the field" is having many partners. "Hunnies" are attractive young women (from the word "honey"). "Cristal popping" means uncorking bottles of Cristal champagne (a very expensive French drink). "Gimme" is short for "give me", "em" is short for "them".

"Murder, She Wrote" is popular American television series (a detective mystery). A "Stretch Navigator" is a type of long limousine: these cars are often used by celebrities. A "Jeep" is a type of car which can be driven across rough ground as well as on tarmac roads.

The singer is a woman who likes a man, but he is always chasing other women. So although she feels some happiness because of knowing him, his actions are making her feel extremely lonely.

This is the third hit for Busted (after "What I go to school for" and "Year 3000"), and it is their first number 1 single (the previous ones reached number 3 and number 2). Busted are a group of three English boys (Charlie, James and Mattie), based in London. They write their own songs, many of which have interesting lyrics. On the group's album (also called "Busted") this song has a different title: "Crash and burn".

The singer is talking to a girl that he likes. She is attractive and popular with boys ("you're so fit, and you know it"). But she refused to dance with him ("I asked you to dance at the disco, but you said no"), in front of many people ("the whole world was watching and laughing"). He felt humiliated ("I crashed and burned at your feet"), and thinks that people are now making fun of him ("you and your friends are laughing at me now"). He believes that she doesn't consider going out with him because he is not successful ("my life's such a bitch" and "I've got no car and I've got no money"). But to get his revenge on her, he has started to go out with her sister ("ask your sister what you're missing"). She doesn't know this yet, but will find out soon ("tonight when you get home you're gonna see I know I've got something better than you, baby") ...
